Amores Perros

Ready for a sad story?

Well when i first got here, my family had a dog with two puppies - she´s the one in that pic where Luis is trying to chop off her head with a machete. Anyway, i hadn´t seen her around much lately and the puppies have been whining for her and running around, so I asked my parents where Tina was. At first the mum said she had an eye infection and so she was just put outside on a nearby street so she didn´t spread the infection to her puppies. Then a few days later she still hadn´t come back, so I asked the dad where she was and he was like, oh I don´t know. Um....so where is she, I asked? He just sort of laughed and said she was out in the street somewhere and I was like, when is she going to come back? He just shrugged and said probably never. Wha...? And then I realised that yet another dog was now added to the huge numbers of stray dogs just wandering the streets in Quito. I couldn´t believe it! So bizarre that they could just toss her out so casually and be ok with the fact that she´s now a stray dog. I´m not a dog person, but I felt for her and her puppies who are now separated from her so unfairly. I had always wondered how all these dogs became strays and I guess it´s because of this attitude here that it´s ok to just discard them into the streets when they´ve served their purpose. Sooo sad...
